Scrub-A-Dub...

26 February 2012

Hi!  A big welcome to all you folks from Pinterest!  Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this recipe/DIY and to let me know your results.  I'm pleased as punch that you're here and I hope you'll take a few moments to browse my blog and enjoy...

Today I decided to make a good organic and cleansing moisturizing scrub to pamper my tired feet.  I whipped up a batch of sugar/honey/oil exfoliating goodness!  Honey has natural astringent and anti-bacterial qualities, olive oil is good for the skin, coconut oil has healing properties and the sugar is a natural gentle scrubby.  Add some lavender for a great scent or tea tree oil for even further medical properties.  Did you know the latter helps to clear up athlete's foot?  Whether you keep it simple or posh it up, this recipe will leave you feeling super clean and soft...

Here's what you'll need to make your own.  It only takes just a few moments!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup organic sugar (or regular white...whatever floats your boat)
6 T coconut oil
2 T honey
1 T of olive oil
optional: 1 t dried lavender or 10/15 drops of lavender oil or any essential oils you choose (but check to make sure it isn't a skin irritant!)
------------------------------
You'll also need:
Clean container with lid
Clean stirring utensil
------------------------------
1. Measure out melted (but not hot!) coconut oil, olive oil and honey into clean container.  I suggest measuring the coconut/olive oil first since it helps to keep the honey from sticking to the spoon.
2. Add sugar.
3. Add lavender.
4. Stir.

Done!
------------------------------
You could also sub small grain salt for sugar.  Play around with various methods but always be sure to test your creations on a small patch of skin first to ensure that you don't have any allergies or issues.
You only have to use a small amount.  Be gentle!  Don't grind it into the skin.  Rub for about 30 seconds to one minute.  Rinse well.  Pat dry.

This concoction will be a bit too oily for the face but it's great for your feet, elbows, knees and legs...

It might will make your shower a bit slippery so be careful, eh?

Store in dry, cool place for up to 3 months.

    1. I would not use this as a face scrub personally since it might be too heavy and harsh for your skin. I do use honey to clean my face 2x weekly and I find the results are excellent! Maybe try the honey alone to start but sure to test it on a small patch of skin the first few times to ensure no allergic reactions...

  5. What would happen if I used vegetable oil?

    1. You could probably substitute sunflower oil (still gentle on the skin and less $$$) but I wouldn't recommend a blended oil. Some aren't compatible with your skin!
