Two Things...

This is where I share Two Things that you might never get to know about me in my general posts.  It gives me a chance to a) be more self-reflective and b) share more about myself in an honest manner.  Some of these things will be funny, some will be embarrassing, some will be informative, some will be sad and some will be just plain silly.  And I'd love it if you shared some things with me too!  I'm starting to make friends here in the blogging world, and I'd like to continue to learn and grow with my readers, friends and followers.

So, here it goes!

Two Things About Me

1.  My parents very unexpectedly and very recently divorced after 37 years of marriage.

This a tough one to put out here.  I almost didn't.

My parents met when they were barely 19, married at late 19, and had me when they were barely 20.  They were together almost twice as long as they'd not been together.  Theirs was a true love story and I used to brag to my friends about how my parents were going to be together forever.  Well, I was so wrong.  It's weird to even type this out. 

The divorce was final only a few weeks ago.  It hasn't been easy to deal with this...even as an 'adult'.  There have been so many emotions - anger, relief, guilt, sadness, anxiety.  I don't have anything to compare this to since it is unlike anything that's ever happened to me before.  We are no longer a family but still a family?  I'm the sole connection between them now.  How very odd.

But I have to say that while I'm upset that this happened, I do have great hopes for their separate futures.   And wherever they go and whatever occurs from this point forward, I'm glad to know that they are my folks and that they love me unconditionally.  And I love them.

2.  I'm a text-rather-that-call person.

Phone calls have always been difficult for me and I avoid them at any and all costs.  Oh, and god forbid I have to leave you a voice mail!  Be prepared for a 20 minute message about absolutely nothing or a three word whispered statement about an important issue that needs urgent attention.  I get all flustered.  Unless I'm at work and then I go into a phone sex operator voice without knowing it.  Yeah, strange right?

Two Things...

My ramblings here on blogspot have taken some interesting twists and turns...and many of my great ideas involving a regular posting (Recipe Friday, Townie Thursday, Thrifty Tuesday) have fallen to a neglected wayside of the information highway.  I'm just not a ritualistic person most of the time...at least in my personal life.  I forget birthdays and anniversaries and holidays.  Brady and I don't have a regular date night or movie night or the like.  We talk about trying to improve this - "you know, we should make this *insert event* our *insert day here* thing" - but we never do.  We spend most evenings together...sitting on our porch and talking and eating and sipping wine but outside of that we don't have a regularly scheduled life.  I am a control freak about other things though...so don't let this post fool you into thinking that I'm a super relaxed, and maybe a really irresponsible, individual.  I'm not incapable of doing things regularly or following a schedule...it just isn't something I do a lot.  For examples of my success, one of the things I've stuck with recently is creating and trying to complete the 100 Before 40...*fingers crossed*...and continuing and growing this blog, of course.  Becoming more organized and schedule-oriented is something I'm striving for...in baby steps.

Anyhoo, something I would like to do start doing on occasion is something called Two Things.  I'll share Two Things that you might never get to know about me in my general posts.  It'll also give me a chance to a) be more self-reflective and b) share more about myself in an honest manner.  Some of these things will be funny, some will be embarrassing, some will be informative and some will be just plain silly.  I'm not promising that this will be a regular thing - not after the self-revealing paragraph above - but I'd like to try to do it every once and a while.  And I'd love it if you shared some things with me too!  I'm starting to make friends here in the blogging world, and I'd like to continue to learn and grow with my readers, friends and followers.

Two Things About Me

1.  My dream car is an old Volvo Station Wagon...1970's-1980's.  In blue.  *sigh*

I. Am. So. Cool.

I love Volvo's so much!  My obsession for them began when I had an 88 Volvo 240 DL during my late teens and early 20's.  That car was the best thing ever and I put over 40,000 miles on it in one year driving back and forth from where I lived in San Diego county (Los Gatos represent!) to where my parents lived on Saint Simons Island...and it never faltered.  I still dream of its creamy brown leather seats and adjustable map lights and sunroof.  While we love the 'pumpkin' in many ways - cheap!  reliable!  orange! - it just isn't quite the same.  One day I'll have my station wagon...one day.

2.  I hate chewing gum.

I hate the taste of it.  I hate the feel of it.  I hate it when other people smack/chew/chomp it.  I hate to see it in people's mouths when they open mouth smile - um, Britney Spears...I'm talking to you!  I hate the smell of it.  I hate to step in it.  Did I mention I absolutely abhor/detest/loathe/hate gum?  Yeah, I do.
