Travel Adventures // Elder Mill Covered Bridge

29 August 2016

While ghost towns are my jam at the moment, I'm still overly fond of visiting a covered bridge or 2 or 7 if the opportunity presents itself.  Which it did on a random day where I found myself in Watkinsville, GA sipping on coffee and looking at ads about the city's upcoming pottery exhibit while waiting for someone to deliver a rug to me via Craigslist.  And that, my friends, is my life in a nutshell isn't it?  Ha!

Anyhoo, I had extra time to drive down some dirt roads in the rapidly approaching gloaming so I decided to revisit the Elder Mill Cover Bridge...this time with my camera in hand.  The first visit was over 3 years ago and undocumented.  This time I was better prepared.

What's somewhat unique about this covered bridge is that it doesn't rely on steel beams for support.  And it's still used daily by local residents.  It's on the small side so I was a bit hesitant about driving the truck across it but despite the somewhat tight squeeze I came out unscathed...

Ah, the gloaming that I spoke of earlier.  Gosh, north Georgia sunsets sure are pretty this time of year.  So much pink.  So much blue.  So much bluish pinkish blue pink.  I only wish you could've heard the cicadas creating a din that almost makes you shout to be heard...

If you feel so inclined you can go to my adventures page and see more covered bridges and travels and stuff.

    1. They all have such interesting histories. And, of course, it's super fun to drive all the backroads to get to there. :)
