Vinyl Fever...

Elvis Costello. How I love thee. From his iconic (and never changing) style to his vegetarian causes to his (duh) music, he just does it for me. Even after that summer where Brady listened to nothing but Elvis Costello and I almost lost my mind, I was quick to be back on the train...
Armed Forces is one of his most recognized albums although the cover here is from the 1979 reissue. It's got Oliver's Army and Accidents Will Happen and (a personal favorite) Party Girl. To quote every single musician I work with, 'it's so tight!'
This album, while an absolute favorite, was not a catalyst for my first blush for Costello. For me it was his song Veronica from the album Spike which premiered in 1989. Featuring Paul McCartney, the song was written about Costello's Grandmother as she struggled with Alzheimer's disease. It's so personal and the video is rather heartbreaking but there still an element of whimsical pop that shines through...
Also, he was in Spice World? Wow.

I love Elvis too, he's sort of under the radar in Australia but every time I play his music I realise what a genius he is.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like music from the 60s to the 90s imo :)
Some of my absolute favorite music is from that era. I didn't realize until recently how many albums from the 70's I had in heavy rotation. My parents rubbed off on me in that regard! :)
