Travel Adventures // Apalachee School House In A Ghost Town...

09 March 2016

Just off of on my favorite roads, Hwy 441, on the way to/fro good ol' Athens, you'll find the old Apalachee School House.  Painted in that favorite pink color of mine (I'm going to call it Camellia Blush & Bashful), it was built in 1911 and is only one of 3 public buildings still standing in Apalachee, GA.  The town was named after the nearby Apalachee River which, in turn, is rumored to be named after the Apalachee Native Americans who might have once lived in the area thousands of years ago...

I've driven by the sign for the school about 100 times but never stopped until this day...which happened to be a sunny one but still GA red clay muddy as all get out.  And me with my new boots on!  Ha!  Who cares?  These boots were made for walking/tromping/exploring and getting dirty...

Unfortunately, I didn't get to step inside the wreath laden doors but I'm planning on giving the historian a call and see if I can't stop back by to photograph and view the inside, and to find out more about the history of the place since Google isn't turning up too much information about it.  Gah!  I love, love, love to find stuff like this.  It seriously makes my day!
