Red Cannas...

In case you can't read that small print on the water tower, Colbert (pronounced cole-bert since folks around there are NOT Stephen Colbert fans...go here for a bit of the story) GA is home of the red Cannas Lily.  When we first moved to Athens and drove to this tiny town to visit my cousin who lives there, we found Cannas Lilies everywhere in the then tropical summer- in the median of the highway, in front of every house, alongside the road.  Nowadays they're only found in small patches at a few locations but I'm thinking it may be due to the early drought this year although I know for a fact the median patch has been removed/moved.  It was kind of sad to drive over specifically to see these beautiful red plants only to find that they're hard to find.  *sigh*  But I rallied and enjoyed the beauty of the ones in front of the cute little train depot that houses the City Hall.  There was also still July 4th bunting everywhere in town so it was a little slice of Americana under the hot sun...
