Lavender Honey Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub...

23 July 2015

Have I mentioned before that a) it's summer here in GA and b) it's hot-as-hell-sticky-gross too?  Yes, I know I have...and I've talked about all the ways I'm trying to beat the heat such as: peppermint tea, hugging the air conditioner and quick, cool showers.  Well, the latter two of those things can dry out your skin if you're not careful.  So I've tweaked my old sugar scrub recipe from years ago to better hydrate the skin.  Plus it has the delightful smell of lavender which is one of my favorite scents in the whole wide world.  So fresh and clean...

Here's what you'll need to make your own.  It only takes just a few moments!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup organic sugar (or regular white...whatever floats your boat)
6 T coconut oil
2 T honey
splash of olive oil
1 t dried lavender or 10/15 drops of lavender oil
------------------------------
You'll also need:
Clean container with lid
Clean stirring utensil
------------------------------
1. Measure out melted (but not hot!) coconut oil, olive oil and honey into clean container.  I suggest measuring the coconut/olive oil first since it helps to keep the honey from sticking to the spoon.
2. Add sugar.
3. Add lavender.
4. Stir.

Done!
------------------------------
You could also sub small grain salt for sugar.  Play around with various methods but always be sure to test your creations on a small patch of skin first to ensure that you don't have any allergies or issues.
You only have to use a small amount.  Be gentle!  Don't grind it into the skin.  Rub for about 30 seconds to one minute.  Rinse well.  Pat dry.

This concoction will be a bit too oily for the face but it's great for your feet, elbows, knees and legs...

It might will make your shower a bit slippery so be careful, eh?

Store in dry, cool place for up to 3 months.

  1. I love home made sugar scrub! I've just started making my own fairly recently. Yours sounds gorgeous, especially with the lavender.

    1. I don't have much of a beauty routine outside of a natural soap, coconut oil for shaving and the like, but sugar scrubs make me feel posh! :) Lavender is one of my all time favorites and I might try some more earthy scents (cedar?) in the fall and see how it works.

Do you have any special tips for your sugar scrubs?

  2. This would be great with peppermint oil too - might be cooling. You know I'm feeling you on hot-sticky-gross Georgia summer weather!
