An unexpected find? What's the meaning of that? Oh, are you talking about discovering my kitchen is messy/disorganized/old? It's all those things right now but that's not so unexpected around here. Neither is it strange to see Brady cutting into a big ol' watermelon. The unexpected is what's inside that watermelon...
It's yellow! In all my 40 years I'd never eaten a yellow watermelon until that day. It wasn't as delicious as a red watermelon since it isn't as sweet but it does pair well with other ingredients for salads or agua fresca.
I can add this to the list of fruits I'd never had before but have now eaten and like just fine. Other things on the list? I've eaten local Physalis in a variety of dishes for the last few years. That's one reason I love our local co-op so much. New fruits and veggies appear regularly. Durian is delicious to me but some folks think it's gross/yucky/ugh. We also ate Mangosteen for the first time this year. It's too expensive to have regularly but if it's on sale I'll snatch some up in heartbeat!
Anything new you've tried for the summer?

I haven't eaten anything exotic this summer. I have managed to get my 2 year old to eat blueberries with out spitting out the "skin".
