Weird & Wonderful Washington GA...

23 June 2015

After trying a few times to make it all the way into Washington, GA without having to turn around due to torrential rain go here for one of the alternate adventures I was finally able to make it inside the city for about 30 minutes before another summer rainstorm dumped buckets from the sky.  What an interesting little town!  From the old Muffler Man statue outside of a food kitchen to the cool abandoned hotel from the early 1900's with everything still intact after being closed for years if not decades, this place is like something out of southern dream...

There was a big ol' black tom cat lounging in the yard of the columned house but it took off like a shot when I walked up to say 'hi'.

Antiques?  No.  Just a room with no roof and more jars of nails than you've ever seen in one place.

There's a taxidermy business on the square that is full of animals killed in Africa.  Turns out the guy who owns the shop is a big game hunter liaison with a company over there and he takes rich people on 'safaris' to shoot whatever they want.  Gross.  Why killed something so beautiful just to stuff it and make it look like it's alive again?  I've never, ever understood that.

The worm and the fish.  Nobody wins in that situation, eh?

I love lace curtains so much.  After seeing them everywhere in Croatia, Hungary and Holland, I've wanted more for my home.  And I noticed that they're really popular in old homes around here too.  They don't do much for privacy but with our house on a hill and our closest neighbor a good friend we don't worry too much about stuff like that.  So, the hunt for the perfect curtains continue!

Maybe next time I head that way I can stop by the little organic farm that's been advertising the soon-to-be-ready blackberries.  There's a cobbler recipe I'm just salivating over...
