Memory...

25 June 2015

I briefly mentioned in an earlier post that we had lost our rescue dog Toby to old age.  His big personality (he loved to bark at any and everything...all day) has certainly been missed around here.  Right after he passed, a few months back, we went and bought a peach tree in his honor and planted it by our front porch so that it'll grow big and strong.  Unfortunately, it hasn't thrived as much as I'd hope despite the pampering and care we've given it.  I'd almost lost hope until a few days ago when I noticed a teeny tiny peach growing on one of the small branches!  I seriously yelled so loud that it startled a) Brady and b) all of the birds within a mile radius of our house.  I'm just so happy to see that little unripe fruit and know that the peach tree is trying its darndest to grow just as we hoped...and that years from now it'll cast its cool and sweet smelling shade over Toby's grave.

If you'd like to hear a bit about Toby's beginnings and how he came to live with us then just go here.  His serious face was just the cutest...

  2. Sorry about your loss, what a beautiful way to honor his memory. I noticed that you mention his liveliness with barking and then you yelled when you saw the peach. Toby would be thrilled.

    1. He would have barked right along with my yelling, that's for sure!

With all this rain lately the tree is doing much better and, do I dare hope?, it looks like there might be 2!!! peaches coming along now!
