Dreaming Of Travel...
10 November 2014
I took this photo earlier this summer while kicking back in the hammock. That day I read a few books on my Kindle (old favorites) and then put that away so I could drowse and dream about going to places I'd never been. Fast forward a few months and amazingly enough those dreams are starting to become a reality. Jen and Brady are going to Europe! Woohoo!
Passports are applied for and I started my itinerary outline last week. We're going to start our adventure in London in late February and we'll be staying in Europe until the end of March or beginning of April. On the schedule (tentatively) is Ireland, Germany, Faroe Islands, France (not necessarily Paris), Finland, Norway, Sweden and Iceland. So, what I need now is some suggestions from y'all. Where to go. What to see. How to get there. Any suggestions on traveling to numerous countries within that time frame. We especially love parks, vistas and historical venues. And beer and wine and whiskey, duh. And books. And food. We're going during the early months to avoid crowds and overtly touristy experiences. We do not speak any language other than (bad) English. We are on a budget so nothing extravagant except for splurges.
And, of course, I'd love to see you if you are near us!
Send me an email at gritsandmoxieathens@gmail.com if you have a moment. I'd really appreciate it...

Where in Germany will you be travelling? We live in the south near Frankfurt or Stuttgart on the other side.
ReplyDeleteIceland is one of my FAVORITE countries in the world. RENT A CAR. The best parts of Iceland are the parts away from the city. I used SAD cars, they weren't too expensive and they picked us up from the airport too us to the car lot and then when we returned the car drove us back to the airport. It was lovely and wonderful and beautiful!!! If you want to see a post (undertheashtree.com/roadtrippin-iceland/)
ReplyDeleteAs for the rest southern France is my favorite part. Paris is fine, beautiful but a bit overrated. Scandinavia is expensive which I'm sure you heard but like if you fly into Oslo its about a 40 dollar train to the city center. My recommendation is to fly to bergen which is cheaper and take the train from Bergen to Oslo I haven't done it, but it's suppose to be the most beautiful train ride in the world! I am so jealous and excited for you and your adventure! If you have anymore questions feel free to email me (ash.hufford@gmail.com) my boyfriend and I did a shorter but similar trip (8 countries in 2.5 weeks. insane https://vimeo.com/108083202) :D
Wow, good for you! My husband and I have saved up our money but now we're discussing where to go and I have to say, your itinerary is very close to my dream one :D, although we change our minds a lot ;)
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait to see your photos and read about your adventures. you're going to have so much fun.
Wow, that is so exciting! I have never traveled any where so I can't really give any suggestions, just have fun!!
ReplyDeleteI love Europe. Last time I was there was in 2012 and its been far too long. I did just get back from Japan though so, I can't complain too much.
ReplyDeleteWow! I don't have a lot of advice - you're going mostly places I haven't been, or it's been a long time (Ireland, France). If you're thinking of France-not-Paris, a friend of mine blogs about being an expat in the south of France and his photos are just so beautiful, lots of small historic towns with gorgeous architecture, it's become top of my list to visit someday.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have the most amazing time! So glad this is happening for you.
Omigod, what a DREAM trip! Happy to chat favorite London spots and bits of Scandanavia before you two take off! :)
ReplyDeleteYou'll be in Europe for quite a while! Sounds like so much fun.

Yay! That's so exciting!! I'm incredibly happy for you two!! I went to France when I was younger for a school trip and I remember the beaches on the north part of the country and they were just jaw dropping gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your adventure there, and of course all of your photos!
