My
friend Lee has agreed to join me on this goal and I'm really stoked for
it! I love using my hands for stuff - eating, gardening, cooking - so I
can't wait to sink my fingers into some wet clay and produce what will
probably be a highly mediocre piece of pottery. Eh, it'll be a blast!
The
only time I try to play pool is when I've had a few drinks at the bar
and the results are, um, less than stellar. Surprise! Well, during the
month of July that will be no more! Look out Athens! There's a
soon-to-be pool shark on the loose...
Posing
for a family portrait may sound easy but have you ever tried to wrangle
2 people, 4 dogs and 3 cats into a small space and get them all to stay
still for a quick shutter click? Not as easy as it sounds...and I'm
sure it'll be worse that what I'm imagining right now. This goal will
have a lot of outtakes that will be funny as hell...
In
Valdosta I took a number of Tai Chi lessons at the local UU but never
completed the entire set due to school stuff popping up. I'd like to
remedy that.
There are 2 (TWO!) places in Athens that offer trapeze lessons! No excuses...especially since my fear of heights has improved.
Ooooh, this wine tasting is going to be such a hardship. Pffft.
My
last experiments in scone making resulted in these flour laden brick
things that could knock your ass out if thrown your way. Not good...not
good at all. And considering that I worked at a British Tea Room for 4
years, there is a matter of pride to be addressed with this goal.
Recipes/suggestions are welcome.
I've
wanted to learn how to rock climb since I was a kid, which is funny
considering that I grew up in some of the flattest country in the US.
Our honeymoon trip last year took us to Yosemite and that rekindled the
old desire to learn...
A
friend of mine just participated in a polar bear plunge in Austin and
said it was pretty incredible. Um, pretty fucking cold too, eh? I'm
going to do it regardless...even if it's a random pool in my
neighborhood. Although I'd prefer it to be here.
My
Nana was amazing woman who grew her own food, canned and baked up a
storm, and a few years before her death she shared a few of her secret
recipes with me. I'll never forget her telling me the one for the
perfect pie crust: buy it from the store. Ha! And I've followed that
recipe every single time. Now, however, I want to try to make my own
vegan version for the holiday season.
For my first snow fort I'm thinking something simple...like this. Shouldn't be too hard, right?
My
first, and only, youth camp experience exposed me to the sport of
archery and I fell in love with it on the spot. I'd like to learn again
on a English longbow...and only for personal sport. There's a company
in GA that crafts handmade versions and they're very reasonably priced.
I mean, how could I not want to learn after watching this?
Whew!
This is a lot of stuff but I think I'm up for the tasks. Oh, and I'll
be sure to photograph as much as I can along the way...
Feel free to join me on the adventure or to share your own goals for the year/month/day!
P.
S. I'll also plan on devoting the next year to a specific cause here on
the blog...Women's Rights. A portion of monies and time and exposure
will be spent on/towards this issue. Why? How about this, this and this.
