Guest Post - Stephanie Marie From Marie, Oh Marie...

19 December 2012
Today's guest blogger is Stephanie from Marie, Oh Marie and she's going to share a most excellent tutorial!  It's awesome because a) it involves doggies (you know I love critters) and b) because Stephanie has been fighting a horrendous cold and still had the energy to whip something up for us.  Now, that's dedication.

Let's give Stephanie a very warm welcome, eh?  And if you've never read her blog then I suggest you stop by and take a peek.  It's full of warm, witty, body-positive, honest-to-goodness realness that is just wonderful to take in...

Anyhoo, I'm giving the blog over to Stephanie.  Enjoy!

Oh hi! I’m Stephanie Marie and I blog over at Marie, Oh Marie. I’m so excited to be guest blogging here at Grits and Moxie! When I first started brainstorming up ideas, I decided I wanted to do something that incorporated two of my favorite things – my pets and felt creations. There are so many options when it comes to this DIY, they don’t just have to be ornaments.

Supplies:
Felt glue/hot glue/e6000
3 (or more) different colors of felt
Scissors
Ribbon
Pen/pencil
Tracing paper or a thin paper

Directions:

1.     The first thing you want to do is pick out the photo (or photographs) you want to use. The image I wanted to use was digital, which made the process a bit easier. Taking a thin piece of drawing paper, I pulled up the photo on my computer and shut off the lights in my room. Or turn up the brightness on your monitor, whichever one works best. I then traced the outline of the image(s) onto the paper.
2.     Cut out the image you now have traced. Place the cutouts on top of the felt you want the silhouette to be in. I used a black felt, so to get the right outline I took a paintbrush and paint that showed up better in the long run. Your pen will be used if your felt is a lighter color.

3.     Taking the now cut out silhouette in felt, glue the silhouette down to your second felt color.  Cut out around your silhouette to the shape you want. I wanted a more scalloped edging.

4.     Repeat step 3, glue your second color down to your third. Again, I scalloped the edges.

5.     Taking your ribbon, tie a small bow and glue it down to the bottom of your silhouette. I decided to use the same ribbon for the top of the ornament as well. Instead of felt glue I used e6000.
6.     Let dry, and hang away!

I really love the end result. Both of my little pups are now represented in our Holiday decorations. You could easily turn these into framed works of art as well.

I hope you are all enjoyed my DIY! May you have a great Holiday season, and an even better New Year!
