Well hello Grits And Moxie friends! I am Trish from JellyBones, and I am uber psyched to be guest posting for Jennifer. I've got a spooky sweet Halloween craft that's fun, super easy, and super cool. SHRUNKEN APPLE HEADS! If you've never made them, you are in for a real treat.
Aren't they cute?
Alright, here's what you'll need:
Granny smith apples (1 apple = 1 head)
A small bowl, wide enough to fit your apple in
Lemon juice
Salt
That's it! Here goes:
1. Peel your apple
2. Carve a little face into your apple. No need to get fancy here, these babies will shrink down to wrinkly little things.
3. Put about 2 cups of water in a small bowl, wide enough to fit your apple into. Add some shakes of bottled, or some squeezes of fresh lemon juice, and some generous shakes of salt. Dip your apple into the water, making sure to get the entire thing.
4. Put apples on a baking sheet, and bake at 200degF for as long as you can. They will take about a week to shrivel, but the more you can keep them in the oven, the faster this will happen. You can also just let them sit on the counter and let them do their thang if you want too.
5. Once they are shriveled, get creative with these guys! Add some beads for eyes, or some noodles for hair. I like to just place mine around my apartment, for some spooky and cute Halloween fun.
Enjoy friends! Hope to hear from you over on my blog, JellyBones. There will find an abundance of cooking adventures (mishaps NOT excluded), sweet life ramblings, and puppy pictures!
