Guest Post - Sue From Chevron & Lace...

Hi everybody!  I really hope that you are enjoying all the crafty fun stuff and guest bloggers that Moxtoberfest has brought so far.  I know I am.  And there's so much more on the way...including several more guest bloggers, a giveaway and some fun Halloween ideas.  But more on that later...

I'm so happy to have Sue from Chevron & Lace on the blog today!  She's going to share an awesome recipe with you all...and not only does it sound delicious but it is just perfect for the Autumn season.  I can't wait to give it a try and have my kitchen smelling all spice-y delicious.  And then dip them in tea!?!  Yum!  So, let's give Sue a very warm welcome...

Hello all you crafty lovelies! I'm Sue and I blog over at Chevron & Lace. It's a lovely blog with tutorials in sewing, home décor, hair, nails, and other beauty subcategories. Throw in some poetry, recipes, a dash of physical fitness and family and you've got it! I am so excited to guest post on Grits And Moxie today, and especially because this is the best cookie recipe EVER! Let me tell you a funny story to prove my point...

This is a picture of me and my brother, Kent. Although you'd never guess by the looks of this picture, we weren't always "sympatico." We were both very competitive teenagers and decided to put our skills to the test. A JIVE! social was coming up (JIVE! is the musical theater group we were a part of in high school), and Kent and I decided to sign up to bring cookies. Kent stated that he would be bringing his famous chocolate chip cookies because everyone loves them and would think he was the best. Of course I took this as a challenge and bet that everyone would enjoy my cookies more. To make the long, and OBVIOUS story short, although Kent's cookies went quickly, mine were gone in minutes!

So without further ado, here is the recipe for the most fantastic, delicious, end all, and be all Gingersnap cookies (perfect for the fall/winter season, by-the-way)!

Ingredients:

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1-2 Tbs. sugar

1. Combine shortening, brown sugar, egg, and molasses in large-ish bowl.
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses

2. Beat until smooth and light.

3. Add dry ingredients and blend well.
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt

4. Roll dough into 1" balls and coat in layer of sugar.

Place evenly apart on pan...

and bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes. Just watch the cookies until you can see some "cracks" on the top like this:

It's as simple as that! Now go try them and if you think THESE are good, head on over to my blog and check out the Homemade Oreo Cookies! Mmmm!
