A little while back I showed you a sneak peek at some vintage bamboo chairs that I found here in Athens early on a dreary Saturday morning. They'd been neglected, and put out by the side of the road and left for trash. When I saw them though, the only thing I could think of was how great they'd look with a little paint, new seats and some heavy duty TLC. You know that Brady and I loooooooooooove to recycle and reuse stuff all the time...and these chairs were no exception.
Well, guess what?! I'm finally done with them and I'm pleased-as-punch at how they turned out. It was quite an easy process but fairly time consuming...
This project required a staple gun, a few cans of non-toxic and low VOC spray paint, 2 thrifted pillowcases, an enormous amount of sweet tea (re-upholstering things is thirsty work) and 2 new recycled foam pads courtesy of Brady's Dad Bill's company. I even have enough fabric left to make a new pillow for another one of our porch chairs and complete one of my 100 Before 40 goals! Yep, these chairs are made for sitting (or sittin') so they'll be used every single day. They are really, really comfy! And they go perfectly with our color scheme as well. Oh, and if you see any weird spots in the pictures they are just shadows. This suckers have been coddled and loved and painted within an inch of their lives...
I know that this look may not be for everyone but I think these chairs are freaking awesome. They remind me of my childhood kitchen. Now I need a couple of big wooden utensils to complete the look, eh?
PS - I promise that I will announce the winner of the Head Full Of Feathers contest ASAP!

They came out great, nice job! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the chairs both before and after! What an awesome find! Where is that fabric from? Is it so lovely, and begging to be turned into a dress for me ;-)
