With Brady back in school and biking all around town, we decided to hunt down a local bike shop to have on the ready for repairs and the like. See, Brady is a bit accident prone - about 4 wrecks in the last 2 years that resulted in busted tires, frames, glasses, knuckles and collarbone - and it just makes sense to be prepared. Thank goodness he wears a helmet now, eh?
Anyhoo, we found Ben's Bikes here in downtown Athens. Surround by junk art, old Airstream trailers, cars, hills and gardens, Ben's Bikes is a quirky oasis of fun.
In case you couldn't tell, I'm obsessed with graffiti/street and folk/outsider art. This place had something painted or propped or welded in almost every available spot. I could've stayed for hours but we only had 15 minutes of free time for the visit. There will be a next time though...oh, yes!
This is the old doggy that wandered around the place. She was very sweet but not too interested in anything other finding sunbeams for optimum sleepytime enjoyment...
These 3 pictures are of the footbridge that spans the ravine on the property. You enter in the Gates Of Peugeot and the path eventually leads to the small park across the way. It is used frequently by brave folks in the neighborhood who want to take a shortcut to the main street. Brady refused to go on it because of all the bees and wasps swarming the Morning Glories and other flowers but I pressed on...til I got stung right behind my knee. Ouch! Bummer end to an otherwise great experience.
I plan on taking another trip there next week and let them tuneup my bike so I can hit some of the trails nearby. I'll try to get some more pictures then...and I'll be sure to avoid the biting/stinging bugs!
Tonight we plan to splurge and celebrate Brady's new job! It's a rare night on-the-town for Ms. Jennifer. Drinks and dinner and then off to see a comedic act at a local club. I'm going thrifting today to see if I can't find a fun new dress to wear...
How about you? Any plans?
