While the weather here in Athens is still pretty freakin' amazing, the temperature is climbing daily and I know that a hot GA summer is awaiting us. Yuck!
When we took Vienna for her daily stroll yesterday she ended up quitting around the 3/4 mark and we had to carry her back home in the backpack after she loaded up on water...
How cute is she? And how horribly unflattering is this picture of me? I mean, I know I dress down when getting muddy in the park but my hair is just wonkers here! Blegh.
Vienna was very glad to be back in the air-conditioned living room...and I know we'll have to make certain accommodations for her age in order to keep her happy and healthy. But the heat is something that affects all the doggies during their walks and I started mulling over ways to provide them a cool treat. I found this recipe on Pinterest but modified it to meet my doggies special dietary and weight needs.
A Healthy Frozen Doggy Treat
You'll need:
- 2 T peanut butter (I used all natural to cut back on the salt and sugar consumption)
- 2 T honey
- 1/4 t salmon oil
- 1 very ripe banana
- 2 cups plain yogurt (I used Greek yogurt but any plain yogurt will do)
- 1/3 cup water
Combine in blender til super smooth...
Pour smooth product in freeze worthy containers. I used these flexible ice trays I found at IKEA. I just love the fish shape...
Freeze for several hours...
I spent my wait time organizing the books in the living room....
Frozen goodness!
Remove from tray and bundle in freezer bags.
Vienna loves them...
They do melt quick and make a bit of a mess so I wouldn't suggest giving them to your doggies on just any old surface.
If you look at the link I posted you'll find that there are so many different ways you can make frozen treats work for you and your furry family.
Enjoy!
I love that picture of you carrying Vienna! Dogs are so precious. =D
