We did it! Our latest house hunting trip was a freaking WINNER!
After last week's bust regarding the Athens rental market fitting our specific needs, we were more than a bit bummed during our vacation this weekend. Luckily, the first house we viewed yesterday was just what we wanted...and more! I can't believe it!
Positives:
- it has hardwood floors
- it is being completely repainted (and I love the color schemes...greens and yellows and blues)
- it has been completely restored
- it is on a hill (I really hoped for this!)
- it is walking distance to downtown (right down from Automatic For The People!)
- it has a most excellent kitchen
- it has 1 & 1/2 bathrooms (yay!)
- it has a history (an old mill house located next to the Chicopee Mill right down the street...the Mill is now part of UGA offices)
- it has a garage (score!)
- it has a front porch (a must!)
- it is pet friendly
- it is in our price range (well, close to it...a bit more than we hoped to pay but they did negotiate on the rent with us!)
- it is quiet
- our landlords are beyond nice
Negatives:
NONE YET
I took just a few quick pictures on my phone. Since the house is being repainted right now it is kinda hard to see what everything looks like. I'll post more when we actually move up there...which is NEXT THURSDAY! Gah! It's happening! It's actually happening!
There are 2 front doors. One leads to the porch from the living room and the other from the bedroom. It is quirky but we like it. These old houses were originally made for 2 different families of mill workers and had no indoor plumbing...which means no bathrooms and no kitchen! Oh, and no closets! When it was restored they moved stuff around, and added closets and a kitchen and the bathrooms...but they left the doors.
Back of the house. There's a door off to the left that enters into a mudroom and the kitchen. There's also a HUGE oak tree, a garage (with tin roof!) and ample yard and parking. Sweet!
Soothing green walls and shiny floors. Lots of light at the front of the house even if the yard is mainly shady...
This kitchen is fucking amazing. I squealed when I saw it. SQUEALED. It's small, yes, but it has a gas stove (thank goodness...I hate cooking on electric!), lots of cabinet space, tiled counters, lots of windows, an open beam ceiling and super cool lighting fixtures. I would've rented the house on the kitchen alone.
Needless to say, we were giddy with relief and happiness when we finally signed the lease. We even have the key already! Yipppppppppeeeeeeeee!
I promise to take more pictures next week!
Thanks to everyone who helped us during this stressful time...you all rock my socks!
