Do you have a favorite pair of shoes that, um, just don't look good anymore but are super comfy and still have plenty of wear left?
Like these old Dansko's of mine? They looked terrible...bike riding, waiting tables and light hiking have all taken a toll on the most comfy shoes ever.
Soooooooo...I gave them a facelift! I got the idea from this post over at Manzita!
Check it!
Woo! Great looking stuff! Well, I think so anyway...
Here's what I did...
I took a vintage blouse...
Cut it...
I cut two main pieces. One is to wrap around the heel area and the larger piece will cover the front of the shoe...
Heavily coat a clean shoe with a layer of modge podge...
I know they look dirty in the pics but they were cleaned before hand...just make sure to let the leather dry!
Cover shoe with fabric...don't worry about excess right now...
Make sure to smooth fabric down and to have it aligned like you want it...
Carefully trim fabric after glue starts drying...
You don't have to follow any specific guidelines with this. I made the fabric come down a bit further on the base of the shoe.
After first layer of glue dries then cover with modge podge again. Make
sure to press down edges and to coat heavily. You can do several coats
if need be...waiting 15-20 minutes between each...
Eat some snacks while they dry.
I made mini blueberry pies...
Once the final layer dries you can either be done or you can go over shoes with a quick spray of gloss. I did the latter and I really liked the results!
This was a super easy DIY but I did learn what NOT to do during this craft. Make sure to wear an apron because modge podge will get everywhere. Move fast since the glue dries quickly! Check your fabric alignment carefully. I didn't realize that my heel chickens were upside down til the end. I mean, I think they still look awesome but that kind of stuff drives me crazy...
Happy Saturday!...for another 50 minutes!
Oh, and go look at the SUPER MOON tonight! Beautiful...

Love this idea! Off to check out my shoes to see if any need some restyling :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like it! I also plan to cover the toes of a few flats with fabric like this. There really are so many things you can do to save shoes (both money-wise and from the landfill)...and change up the wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know how yours turn out. Keep me updated!
they turned out great!
